What to wear to the career fair

Employers will expect students to be dressed in professional business attire. Business attire is conservative and consists of neutral colored suites and accessories.  Don’t have a suit? How to and why you should attend a career fair

The spring career fair is the best way to have face-to-face contact with a variety of employers who have jobs and internships and want to speak with KU students. When you submit your resume to a company’s website, you are merely one of many. At a career fair, you become more than just another application in the system. You are a real person with great skills to offer the employer.

They will remember you because you have engaged in a conversation with them. When you make a positive impression in person, it greatly increases the likelihood that an employer will do something with your online application. The career fair only happens once in the spring – take advantage of it! You won’t regret it, and it may be the gateway to a wonderful opportunity you even didn’t know existed.

KU Career Services invites you to participate in the 2014 University Career Fair. This event offers your organization the opportunity to meet with hundreds of college students and recent graduates to present your career opportunities and internships. For many organizations this can be an extremely effective way to introduce your organization to potential candidates. The University Career Fair is open to all majors and all class levels, from freshman through PhDs and alumni. We anticipate meeting capacity for the fair, so be sure to register as soon as you can.

Office of Multicultural Affairs Open House Dessert Reception

We continue the tradition of the Open House Dessert Reception in the Office of Multicultural Affairs prior to the start of the career fair. This activity takes place from 12:00-1:15 p.m., on Feb. 12th, in the Sabatini Multicultural Resource Center. It is a wonderful opportunity for employers to visit with students and staff in an informal setting. Employers may become a sponsor of this event for $50. This sponsorship will include signage for your table designating your organization as one that supports diversity in the workplace, and a special thank you in the career fair guide. To take advantage of this sponsorship, select it on the registration form. Questions? Contact Ann Hartley (ahartley@ku.edu / 785-864-4517) or Liz Caldwell (lcaldwell@ku.edu / 785-864-7672).

110 Burge, 1601 Irving Hill Road
Lawrence, KS 66045

The University Career Center will arrange for pick-up by FedEx and UPS after the career fair. Because the fair ends at 6:00 p.m., items will not be picked up until the next morning. If you use another carrier and would like us to arrange a pick-up, please contact Ann Hartley (ahartley@ku.edu / 785-864-4517) in advance. It would be helpful for us to know the dimensions and weight of your display, as well as the carrier and method of shipment (ground, express, etc.). Your response is appreciated. At the end of the fair, complete your shipping paperwork and place your shipment beneath the appropriate shipping sign located in the main ballroom.
Parking
The career fair begins at 2:00 p.m., proceeded by the Open House Dessert Reception from 12:00 to 1:15 pm. We will have staff in the parking garage north of the Kansas Union to assist you beginning at 11:00 a.m. Go to Level 4 of the parking garage to unload materials.
