Remote Career and Major Exploration for Current Students

The University Career Center offers a variety of online services to help students explore and research majors and careers.  KU offers over 190 undergraduate majors, giving you plenty of options to choose from.  Whether you begin your exploration by accessing your academic and personal strengths or conducting an informational interview with an alum to learn more about a potential career, the UCC online resources provide important information to aid with your decision.

Online Resources

Use the Exploration Web Hub to begin exploring options by browsing careers, majors, and interest areas. All of the resources interconnect, so you can consider majors based on career interests, explore careers based on majors, and view careers and majors associated with interest areas /careers.

Careers and Majors:  This page allows students to explore careers, industries and KU majors.  Click on a major, career or industry to explore departmental websites (which includes academic curriculum), career paths, potential employers, job search tips and strategies, professional associations and links to job and internship boards.

TuaPath – Jayhawk Ready offers a series of resources and videos relating to exploring careers, applying to jobs and internships, the job search process and networking tips and techniques.

O*Net Online has detailed descriptions of the world of work for career exploration and job analysis.

Career Assessments are an excellent place to start when making career choices, such as choosing a major, exploring occupations, and determining a career plan.  The UCC offers 5 assessment options.  Some assessments are free while others require a fee.  We recommend that you schedule an online coaching appointment to review and discuss your own personal assessment outcomes, including how your strengths and skills fit with your major or career pathway.

Networking Resources to Explore Majors / Careers

Your relationships (network) with people like your family, friends, coworkers, classmates, former supervisors, and faculty can play a valuable role in exploring careers and majors.  Your networks can provide career information and advice or job and internship leads.   Expanding your network is key for career exploration.
