These are opportunities that take you outside of the classroom and enable you to have hands-on experiences in a variety of settings. By taking part in engaged learning, you can develop and expand the knowledge and skills you’ve gained through coursework by turning theory into practice.

UNIV 120: Introduction to Engaged Learning
Explore your interests in several engaged learning opportunities offered on KU’s campus, including service learning, research, global opportunities, and internships, through self-exploration and hands-on activities related to each experience. You will be able to identify the opportunity/opportunities in which you are most interested and create the materials needed to pursue that experience with the support of your instructor. By the end of the course, you will have a plan outlined to pursue the engaged learning opportunity/opportunities of your choice. You will also have completed at least one requirement related to fulfilling an experiential learning certificate.

LA&S 490: Internship Exploration
Are you needing or wanting credit for an upcoming internship? If you want to complete an internship that is not related to your major, your department doesn't offer an internship course, you don't meet the requirements for your department's internship course, you are not accepted into a major yet, or you need to explore another option, you may want to consider LA&S 490: Internship Exploration. This course requires permission from the instructor to enroll, additional coursework outside of the internship conducted via the Internet, working a minimum number of hours a week at the internship, and finding an internship via your own connections or the resources at the University Career Center. Approved course for Goal 6 (Innovation & Creativity) of the KU Core.
