Internship Resources

Internships are a great way for you to try out different career fields and industries while gaining new skills and building your personal network. You can complete one or more internships anytime throughout your experience at KU, and there are plenty of opportunities available for you locally, nationally, and even internationally.

Components of a strong internship:

  • Expectations and learning objectives are clear
  • Formal and informal evaluations regularly occur
  • It’s a true learning experience for you, the student
  • Appropriate training and supervision is provided
  • Compensation is clearly defined upfront: documentation from the U.S. Department of Labor

LA&S 490: Internship Exploration

Are you needing or wanting credit for an upcoming internship? If you want to complete an internship that is not related to your major, your department doesn't offer an internship course, you don't meet the requirements for your department's internship course, you are not accepted into a major yet, or you need to explore another option, you may want to consider LA&S 490: Internship Exploration. This course requires permission from the instructor to enroll, additional coursework outside of the internship conducted via the Internet, working a minimum number of hours a week at the internship, and finding an internship via your own connections or the resources at the University Career Center. This course is approved for Goal 6 (Innovation & Creativity) of the KU Core and the Capstone Requirement for KU Core 34.

Semesters taught: fall, spring, and summer -- online (1-5 credits)
